projekt UDENFOR would like to celebrate the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion 2010 by developing and launching alternative city walking tours: Poverty Walks. We want to make Copenhagen stand out as an actively engaging capital that includes marginalized citizens while encouraging taking part in the public open space.
The idea behind Project Poverty Walks is to teach and train motivated homeless people to be city walk guides where they present their homeless universe to fellow citizens, visitors and tourists. projekt UDENFOR hopes to let the voice of the homeless be heard.
The walking tour attendants will during a Poverty Walk hear about the guide’s street experience as well as be presented to specific historic, poverty and overlooked locations of Copenhagen.
Poverty Walks hopes to create a debate platform where different citizens are able to discuss ways of life while expanding their views and opinions regarding social marginalization.
Furthermore Poverty Walks will be an example of empowerment where homeless people are able to help themselves succeed. Instead of rejection they will experience appreciation.
