14. What is the Danish National Day of the Homeless

Just as there is an international help the children day, an AIDS day and a Women's Day, there is also an International Day for the Eradication of Poverty. In Denmark, we have turned that day into the Day of the Homeless, which is held every year on the 17 October in Copenhagen, usually in the Town Hall Square. Different NGOs working with homeless people back up the Day of the Homeless.
The day is used to raise awareness on the issue of homelessness through speeches and entertainment. There are tents, and free coffee, cake, food and brochures that provide information on the work that is carried out by the different projects every day, both summer and winter. This is also the day where the homeless prize is awarded. This prize was awarded to projekt UDENFOR in 2004.
